We start this project to enable the manufacturing of small 3D pieces for prototyping. We need a small but powerfull machine for ABS and Aluminium and finally we decide to choose a PROXXON MF70 (about 350$).
A custom kit was developed in order to fix the 3 NEMA 23 stepper motors to the milling.
The project is grouped in two parts:
- Android APP : In charge of GCode files decoding and connection with the driver.
- mCLONE driver: In charge of read the manufacturing points from the android app and generate the high power signals for stepper motors. It also reads the limit switches and custom signals.
The GCODE file (with extension.nc) could be generated with your prefer tool, (we use Catia with the Manufacturing toolbox). The extra STL file could be build too ifyou need the extra information into your app. This two files shall be saved into the GCODE folder inside your tablet or compatible android phone.
The picture below shows the flow chart of GCODE app. If you want to test the generated .NC file, you can use the app in standalone mode, just load the .NC file to your tablet (and optionally the .stl file) and simulate it with the play button.
On the other hand you can connect your tablet (if support usb host mode) to the mCLONE CNC driver pressing the connect button. In this mode you can jog the milling machine or home it. When you press the play button you star to milling your 3D model!!!!.
